Can cats eat dog food?

Can cats eat dog food?
I was getting the food bowls for my dogs and cats when my one of my cats tripped me and I dropped all the puppy food on the floor and counter, most of it was on the counter but a little went on the floor and my cats started eating it. I stopped them but all three of them got a little. It wasn't much but i know that dog food isn't a good cat diet. What about just a little though? It was puppy food so it was extra fattening so I just want to be sure.
